Autumn in New England is simply gorgeous with its brightly colored leaves and crisp breezes. If you’re anything like us, you’ll want to spend as much time as possible enjoying the season, and there’s no better place to do that than in your backyard gazebo.
If you live in MA, NH, or another northeast state, use one of these quick and easy gazebo decorating ideas to create the perfect autumn haven for your family.
1. Fall Garlands
Garlands are perfect for decorating the posts of your gazebo. Head over to your local craft store and pick up some autumn-themed runners -- fall flowers or bright leaves would be particularly festive. Then, simply wrap the garlands around the posts that frame the opening of your gazebo for an eye-catching display.
2. Pumpkins and Gourds
Living in New England, there are always plenty of pumpkins, gourds, and other autumn vegetables to be found at local farms. Buy a few nice pieces and arrange them on the steps of your gazebo. You can place them all on one side, arrange them symmetrically, or even line the railings with mini pumpkins!
3. Chinese Lanterns
If you spend a lot of time relaxing inside your gazebo, spruce up the interior with fall-colored Chinese lanterns. Purchase a few lanterns of various sizes in colors like brown, orange, or yellow, then hang them from the ceiling with different length string. It’s a quick way to make your hideaway into a romantic nighttime spot.
4. Mums and Other Flowers
Mums are another fall staple that can take your gazebo decorations to the next level. They come in lots of gorgeous colors—from orange and yellow to purple—and they’ll look stunning lined up along the sides of your gazebo. You can even put them in barrels or prop them up on hay bales for a little extra fall flair.
5. Old Wheelbarrows or Furniture
If you really want to be the talk of the neighborhood, mix some props into your autumn decor. If you have an old wheelbarrow or wooden chair that you don’t mind leaving out in the elements, you can arrange pumpkins, flowers or gourds in them. Place your props on each side of the gazebo entrance, and you’re sure to impress your neighbors.
